Library/Media Center
PHILOSOPHY
Service to the young people and the teachers at Archbishop Carroll High School is the goal of the Library/Media Center. We believe it is important to help students stretch their minds, to grow, not only in knowledge, but also in their relationships with others. It is essential for students to know that what they say, do, or think, affects others.
The library provides tools for mental stimulation, as well as support for the curriculum with both print and non-print materials. It is a pleasant place to study with ready access to maps, reference books, encyclopedias, and sources for current events. There is a wide range of material available: from philosophy to fiction, science to poetry, biography to history; the whole span of written and visual records. Learning to find information and to enjoy some activities may well be the starting point from which the student grows in responsibilty, self-respect, and independent thinking. Needless to say, the library is open to the students for work with class assignments and "extra" intellectual pursuits.*

OBJECTIVES
1.To provide materials that will implement, enrich, and support the educational programs of the schools.
2.To help students acquire competency in information search skills that they will need to become proficient and independent thinkers.
3.To create an atmosphere that will encourage students to seek knowledge beyond the confines of the curriculum, to provide materials that will inspire and stimulate youthful minds, and to help students develop a lifelong love of learning.
