Archbishop Carroll High School is a Catholic, co-educational, four year college preparatory school founded in 1951 by the late Cardinal Patrick O'Boyle. Archbishop Carroll High School is named in honor of Archbishop John Carroll, the first Catholic Bishop of the United States, and is the only area high school owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Washington. We are accredited by the Middle States Association of College and Schools and the District of Columbia Department of Instruction.


Our Mission

Archbishop Carroll High School's mission is to provide a catholic education for young people in the Archdiocese of Washington. We are dedicated to serving a diverse student population in an environment that nurtures the whole person by integrating faith, learning, and life. Consistent with our Catholic tradition, we seek to develop leaders who are rooted in Gospel values, and are committed to meeting the challenges of building a just society.

    Liturgical services, pastoral counseling, retreats, and support group programs contribute to the spiritual development of our students and faculty. Community service is an important aspect of our religious commitment. Every student participates in programs of community services.


    Our Community

    Archbishop Carroll embraces students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds with a wide range of interests. Carroll students have been recognized by various national and local scholarship organizations and programs.

    Archbishop Carroll consists of more that 70 qualified and dedicated religious and lay faculty members; 60% of whom hold a Master's Degree or higher. With 700 students, Archbishop Carroll maintains a teacher student ratio of 1:15, with an average class size of 21 students.




    Location and Transportation
    Carroll is located on a 12 acre campus in the Brookland area of Washington, D.C., near Catholic University and Trinity College at 4300 Harewood Road, NE.

    Easily accessible from all points in Metropolitan Washington, students travel to and from school by bus or Metro rail. The Metro bus provides daily bus shuttles for a modest fee from the Brookland /Catholic University and Rhode Island Avenue Metro Stops. Convenient bus stops are also available for local travel.
